How "air quality near me" works
Air pollution is monitored by a network of fixed government stations, so the most accurate way to answer "what is the AQI near me?" is to find the closest station to where you are standing. When you tap the button above, your device shares your approximate coordinates with your browser only; a small script then measures the straight-line distance to every city in our network — hundreds across India and dozens worldwide — and shows you the nearest one with its live reading, colour-coded category and a link to the full report.
Because readings come from real monitors rather than a model of your exact address, we always show which city you have been matched to and how far away it is. If the nearest station is far, treat the number as indicative and check a couple of surrounding cities too. Indian cities are shown on the national CPCB scale; international cities use the US EPA scale.
Your privacy comes first
This feature is built to be completely private. Your location never leaves your device — there is no server call carrying your coordinates, no logging and no storage. The matching happens locally in JavaScript against a small public list of monitoring cities. You can use the site fully without ever sharing your location by browsing the city directory instead.

Air quality is measured by fixed government monitoring stations, not at every address. We show the closest city with a live station and the distance to it, so you know how representative the reading is.
Is my location shared or saved?
No. Geolocation happens entirely in your browser and is used only to compute the nearest city. Nothing is transmitted to our servers or stored anywhere.
It says location denied — what now?
Your browser blocked location access. You can allow it in the site permissions, or simply search your city on the all cities page instead.
